North's effort goes down with leading hitter.

EAGAN, Minn. -- Fifth-ranked Lakeville North won the first two sets but, after leading hitter Maddy Hornyak went down with an apparent ankle injury, top-ranked and unbeaten Eagan stormed back for a 21-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-12, 15-9 win.

After North took the first two sets, behind six kills and seven digs from Hornyak, the teams were locked in a back-and-forth battle in the third set with the Wildcats taking a 13-11 lead when the junior outside hitter fell awkwardly while attempting a block.

With Hornyak out, and other Panther players filling in unfamiliar position, Eagan pounced.

The teams would trade points until a five-point run by the Wildcats gave the hosts a 19-14 lead and sent them on their way to a 25-19 win.

After the lead changed hands twice early in the fourth set, Lauryn Miller, like she did in the third set, broke things open by serving up a five-point run and a 7-1 run later in the set allowed Eagan to cruise to a 13-point victory.

The Wildcats then stepped up their game by siding out on seven of nine changes in the final set to roll to a 15-9 win.

Despite playing just half the match, Hornyak had 10 kills and nine digs while Savannah Polzin and Ella Thompson led the way up front, with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Thompson added six blocks and Polzin four.

Abby Jandro had 48 assists along with three aces and three blocks while Halle wolfe had a match-high 22 digs while receiving 31 serves without an error.

The Panthers will be on the road again, Thursday, when they face Apple Valley in a 7 p.m. match.

Ella Thompson accounted for 15.5 points with 12 kills and six total blocks.
