New 2022 School Records & Boys 4x400m Relay are State Champions!
Wow, what a season! Congratulations to Andrew Casey, who broke the LNHS school record in the 400m dash at the Shakopee Invitational on April 21 with a blistering 49.51 to break the previous record of 49.85 held since 2002 by current LNHS T&F parent Chase Fetzek. The two record holders were able to meet up at the record board at the Mega Meet to celebrate with a photo. Then eleven days later, Andrew won the 1600m run at the Hamline Elite Meet with a time of 4:16.35 (a PR of 6 seconds), breaking the record of 4:16.99 held since 1996 by Jason Greene. Not to be outdone, Bryce Stachewicz won the 1600m run at the SSC Relays in a time of 4:14.61, breaking the record Andrew had set just four days before. To cap it off, the 4x400m relay team of Blake Licht, Andrew Casey, Parker Malmgren, and Bryce Stachewicz broke the school record set just last spring in a time of 3:24.21 at the true team section meet.
The South Suburban Championship Finals on May 26 were a huge day for our team, when FOUR school records were broken! Lauren Reynolds started it off by breaking the girls 100m dash record in a time of 12.26. Next up was Bryce Stachewicz, running the 1600m in 4:13.92 to break his own record set earlier this year. Andrew Casey followed that in the 800m run, breaking the record previously held by Bryce with a time of 1:52.11. And the 4x400m relay of Jack Kocher, Andrew Casey, Blake Licht, and Bryce Stachewicz capped off the night by smashing the school record from a few weeks ago with an amazing time of 3:20.75.
Then came the State Meet June 9-11. In the 400m finals, Jack Kocher broke Andrew's school record by running a 49.05 to take 5th place! Just a few hours later, Jack Kocher, Bryce Stachewicz, Blake Licht, and Andrew Casey became the 4x400m relay State Champions by running an incredible 3:17.58. That time is the 5th fastest in Minnesota history. It was an incredible ending to a record-breaking season.
To keep things going, Andrew Casey competed in the New Balance Nationals meet in Pennsylvania right after our season and re-broke his 800m record with a time of 1:51.60. The great performances keep on coming.
We have lots to be proud of this spring. Way to go, athletes!
