Twenty-time Ironman Triathlon and MN State Record Holder, Ironman World Championships, Kona, Hawaii. (9:16:48).  14-time All-American and 1996 Age Division World Champion M30-34, 1/2 Ironman Triathlon World Championships.  Team USA Captain, 1998  (Lausanne, Switzerland) and  2001 (Edmonton, Canada) Olympic Distance Triathlon World Championships.

2015 Overall Champion, Waseca 1/3 Ironman. 2015 MN Men's Master of the Year.

EDUCATION

Graduate Degree: University of St. Thomas, Master of Arts,  Curriculum and Instruction. 

Undergraduate Degree:  St. Olaf College. Bachelor of Arts, Biology, Education.

Post Graduate Studies:  Cellular physiology, exercise science, education.

 

Personal Bio:

Rich Heilman  grew up in St. Paul, MN and went to St. Paul Central HS where he competed in alpine skiing, track and field and boys gymnastics.  He went to St. Olaf College where he continued to competing in  alpine skiing, a walk-on for men's cross country and men's swim and dive. Rich was named the most improved athlete in men's cross country his senior year. He graduated with a degree in biology and education and went on to complete his Masters degree at St. Thomas University.  While in college, Heilman began competing in triathlons in 1985 and found  tremendous success, going on to win a world championship title in 1996 and earning 14 All-American titles.  Although he continues competing in triathlon and cross country skiing at an elite level, his true passion is in coaching athletes to their personal best successes through the challenge, discipline and joy of sport
