LNHS Track & Field Boys and Girls Student Athlete Expectations

  1. Work to your full potential as a student.  Make sure you are doing your best possible work in the classroom.

  2. Attend all practices and complete all workouts as assigned. Follow the attendance policy, if you have to miss practice and/or meet communicate ahead of time with your position coach. If an emergency arises, please email your coach for an alternative workout you can complete at home.  Failure to notify your coach of your absence before the days end will result in sitting out the next meet.

  3. If you need help with schoolwork and have to miss practice plan ahead and let the coaches know about the situation.  Bring a note from the teacher with whom you’re working with and/or meeting. Be planful with school work. We understand that school comes first, so do your best to balance your time.

  4. Understand the top 3 athletes will be considered varsity for the next meet. Be willing to put in extra time to improve your fitness and technical expertise in your events. Be willing to change event groups to better suit your athletic abilities.

  5. Be open to suggestions for improvement.  If asked to consider a different event group or adding a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th event to help our team- please do so. This is a team effort with individual accomplishments.

  6. Be a positive and supportive team player. Treat all team members, coaches, officials, and competitors with respect.

  7. Don’t compete in your event and then go sit at camp!!  Complete a quality cool down and then find ways to help your team. Successful teams expect all members to show support and encouragement to one another.

  8. Ride the team bus to and from meets when appropriate.  Parents may take their athlete home when conflicts are unavoidable.  No riding with friends or self-driving.

  9. Stay for the entire meet if possible and cheer on our teammates.

  10. Practice safety in all workouts and competitions.  No horseplay or unsafe practices.  When running off campus, stay on sidewalks and bike paths, use cross walks and follow all traffic laws.

  11. Listen when coaches or captains are speaking. Be respectful!

  12. Represent Lakeville North High School in a positive manner both at home and away.  The clothes you wear, the actions you take, and the words you use all reflect on our program and school.  Clothing with references to sexual material, drugs and alcohol, and other inappropriate items will not be tolerated.  Shirts are required at all practice events.

  13. Follow all MSHSL rules regarding alcohol and drug use.  Do not use these substances at any time.  Do not be present when someone else is using these substances. Report any suspected use to the coaching staff.  Our program has a zero tolerance policy on this matter. Find an adult in your life you can talk to if you think there may be a problem.

  14. Have appropriate clothing for weather and training conditions.  Early season practices require layered clothing, hats, and gloves for cool weather. Later in the spring you will need cool clothes to handle the heat. Be sure to have your competition spikes (shoes)/throwing shoes in your locker so that they can be used for quality workouts during the season.

  15. Report injuries to your event coach. We need you healthy to improve and compete.

  16. Please communicate with your coaches - they’re all here to help you!
