#8 Panthers defeat #2 Eastview 2-1

“We feel like we have been overlooked all season, even in warm ups they didn’t look like they were ready to play us.” “They” is the number 2 ranked Eastview Lightning, and the quote is from senior goal scorer Polly Sjoberg who helped lift North to a stunning upset Tuesday night inside a brisk Panther Stadium.

It was Sjoberg’s first goal on a cross from Alexis Tousignant that put the Panthers up 1-0 over Eastview with under 5 minutes left in the first half. However it was the beautiful chip by Olivia Bruce that was the decisive factor in the upset of the lightning. Bruce settled the ball right on the edge of the lighting penalty area and finished with an immaculate chip over the goalkeeper.

Eastview was able to strike a goal back against the Panthers in the first 5 minutes of the second half but the Panthers hung on for a narrow 2-1 victory.

Senior Polly Sjoberg “we just wanted to prove to everybody that we are a top team.” The Panthers did just that advancing to 7-1 on the season and at least temporarily jumping on top of the South Suburban Conference Table. Assistant coach Greg Lyon added “the girls were just ecstatic, on this playing surface (Artificial Turf) you aren’t going to beat us, unless you are really, really fit.”

North’s next opponent will be at Shakopee Thursday night, and if results bounce their way, could end up on top of the SSC at the start of section play.
