Recap

The Lakeville North Girls Lacrosse team took to the field for the first time this season Tuesday evening at 6. The Panthers runners up in state last year took on perennial Minnesota High School sports powerhouse Eden Prairie.

The Panthers struggled early and dug themselves a 6 goal deficit early in the game. Riley Huda finally ended the goal streak of the Eagles by crashing the net from the 8 meter line. Things didn’t get any easier for North as they were lucky to go into the break only down 9 as some controversy broke out in the final seconds of the half. With 0.1 second left on the clock Eden Prairie rifled in a shot from the 8 meter line but the goal was disallowed. It appeared that more time should have been on the clock before the shot but the call went North’s way. The Panthers trailed 12-3 at halftime.

Logan Dobratz started the Panthers positively in the second half by scoring the first goal and cutting the EP lead to 8. The Eagles answered in resounding fashion and activated the 10 point running clock by scoring 3 unanswered goals. Emmie Madsen started a minor comeback streak for North by cutting the lead to 17-6. She scored again to cap off a Panther 3 goal streak. The Panthers were flying around the field with renewed hope but Eagle Captain Katherine Tomlinson curbed the North momentum by re starting the mercy rule at 18-8. North would go on to allow 3 more goals in route to a 21-8 defeat in their home opener.

Eden Prairie head coach Beth Peterson said postgame “North did a really good job of controlling the draw in the second half and they took it to the net.” She added “they were threatening, very threatening.”
