North wins 15-0 behind two Grand Slams by Angelo Altavilla

Recap

Lakeville North took on conference opponent Eastview Saturday afternoon at 4 pm. The sun was peaking out from behind the clouds at the Eastview Ballpark and the bleachers were full of fans. The Panthers entered the game with a 1-0 record following an 11-0 victory of Bloomington Kennedy.

Lakeville North seemed to pick up right where they left off following the Kennedy game. Angelo Altavilla, the shortstop and third hitter of the day smashed a home run to deep right field just staying fair. This was just the first hit of 4 for Altavilla on the day and his first of 3 home runs.

In the bottom of the second inning after multiple Eastview errors Angelo found himself at the plate with the bases loaded. He says “you just wanna get the runs in, just hit the ball solid and that’s about it.” Hit it solid he did driving the ball well past the fence and giving North a 7-0 lead. Overshadowed by Angelo’s performance pitcher Nick Dorfman also had a solid game for the Panthers only allowing four hits before being subbed for AJ Sayer. Nick Oblak added the 8th run of the game on a double in the top of the 3rd inning. Three sport athlete Drew Stewart followed up with a double of his own to push the North lead to 10-0.

The whole crowd noticed when Altavilla walked to the plate with the bases loaded for the second time. Eastview called time to talk about the defensive situation and shouts rang out from the Lightning faithful “walk him, give up one run instead of 4!”. But give up 4 they did. Angelo again blasted the inside fastball way out of the park. Hitting one grand slam in a game is amazing, hitting two is unheard of. North would go on to add two more runs and AJ Sayer was able to preserve the shutout for North giving them the victory 15-0.

Post Game Altavilla said “it feels good to hit them (the home runs) but it’s a team game and its a team win, it’s not about ourselves.” Head Coach Market said after the Kennedy that he wants the team to play error free baseball. The Panthers did not record an error in the game which Coach Market attributes to coach Gassmann “in the gym before we even get outside.” Market added “something that is important to us is to pitch well and play good defense”.

The coming week is a grueling one for the Panthers with such a short season. They play 4 times next week and Coach Market intends to pitch a few more arms including junior Wes Ahlers and Charlie Shreeve who have only appeared briefly thus far.
